Shreveport, LA, has a population of approximately 194,000 people. The city ranks in 3rd place after Baton Rouge and New Orleans in total population. The Shreve Town Corporation established the city in 1836 to become the terminus for the Texas Trail on the banks of the Red River. The city’s history was influenced by the discovery of oil and later by a General Motors vehicle factory. After declining due to losses in jobs in the oil industry and vehicle manufacturing, the city has resurged as the commercial, educational, and cultural center for the Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas region.
