Flood Damage Repair For Shreveport Homes

Flooding is a part of life around Shreveport. The last tropical storm is gone, but the Red River is still at risk for cresting with other rainfall in the future. When it happens, residents know that cleaning and restoring their homes needs to happen quickly.

Unless the water recedes quickly, much of the flood damage to Shreveport homes centers around the floors. That is where SERVPRO restoration teams focus much of their initial efforts. The wood floors in many area homes absorb water, and if not removed after two or three days, begin to warp and buckle. The water can also damage and destroy the sub-floor underneath. Fortunately, team members can rebuild all of it.

First, team members remove the floorboards and floor trim. If any of it is salvageable and approved by the insurance company, specialists can set it aside for reuse.

Second, they remove all damaged pieces of the sub-floor and other support structures for the walls and the rest of the home. As the team clears out the debris, one of our inspectors makes certain the area remains safe. If there is a major risk to the home, the team leader immediately recommends the owner brings in a licensed construction firm to make repairs.

Now, SERVPRO specialists install new supports and then the sub-floor. Each team member on the job trains to carefully lay-in the original flooring, if available, with the new floorboards. Since no home is perfectly square, each team has on hand the saws and other equipment needed to trim boards to ensure each piece fits correctly. If the homeowner requires it, team members also cover the floor with a new stain or other finish.

In kitchens and bathrooms, each restoration team can also replace linoleum and tile floors. In each area, the flood damage can quickly loosen the glue that holds both to the wood or concrete flooring. Specialists can use heat and special tools to push linoleum and tiles back in place, but if the damage is in a wide area, replacing both is often cheaper than attempting to restore them.
